Tech Providers is searching for a Telecommunications Technician for a long term contract position with a client in the Augusta, GA area. Local candidates are preferred. This position is primarily responsible for the support of temporary construction communications for our client's field office areas. The majority of the work will be in the field, so a valid driver's license is required.
This person will be involved in the installation, maintenance and project support for voice, data and telecommunications transport networks: analog, digital and VoIP phones, fiber optics, LAN (local area networks) connectivity and PBX connectivity. The individual should have a working knowledge and experience in fiber fusion splicing, troubleshooting phone and LAN connectivity issues and testing methods. A person with previous experience with AVAYA phone switches is desirable but not critical for this position. The technician should be willing to work in hot, dirty, enclosed, radiation, and contaminated environments as necessary.
A two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is highly desirable. Education and/or experience must ensure the following: an understanding of the various topologies, e.g. telecommunications, wireless, data and voice networks and how they interface with each other; an ability to logically troubleshoot and repair hardware and software associated with voice systems, data networks, telecommunications systems and ancillary equipment; a knowledge of voice and data wireless systems and troubleshooting techniques; and a knowledge of data communications and packet switch networks.
This person must have the ability to provide good customer service, work independently, have good time management skills, and have good verbal and written communications skills. They must provide after hours or on-call support as needed.
This person must also be able to walk, crawl, kneel, stoop, climb ladders, read technical drawings, lift, carry, and pull heavy objects, use hand tools, use various types of telecommunication instrumentation devices, work in extreme weather conditions, work in dirty locations, work in enclosed areas, and work in radiological/contaminated areas as needed.
